Mitch's maternal Great Great Grandfather Anaru Kleskovic was originally from near Dubrovnik in Croatia.

He arrived in New Zealand in the late 1800's where he moved to the far north and worked in the Gumfields where he met and married his bride Erina Kaka a Maori princess.

Erina's father Hohepa was a well respected warrior Chief of the Aupouri Tribe. The eldest child Raiha (Lizzie) is Mitch's great grandmother. She married a Welshman Andrew Jones and they had 17 children which number 8 is Mitch's grandmother Aneta (Netta).

She married John Hodgson who was born in New Zealand by English parents. So through his mother Tracee, Mitch has many relatives.
Two of these relatives are Stacey Jones (International Rugby League player) and Shane Jones M.P.

Mitch's Fathers side (Owen Evans) are 2nd generation Kiwis but their ancestors were originally from the UK and Wales.

Mitch has a brother (Simon, who also races) and a sister (Laura).
