Mitch Evans

About Mitch

Mitch is the youngest son of Owen Evans - NZ land speed record holder, motorsport enthusiast
and successful businessman. He was born into a motorsport mad family. Mitch Evans race car driver

Grandfather, Laurie Evans passed on his love of racing to Owen, who started in karts, moved to rallying, won multiple Porsche racing championships, competed at the 1996 Le Mans 24 hour race and still holds the NZ Land Speed Record at 349kph.

In the midst of all this he had just enough time to build a very successful panel beating business and raise a family with wife Tracee. Mitchell, older brother Simon and Laura Mitchell's only sister and the oldest of the three, continue the family tradition in the sport.

It's when you consider that at 16 years of age he has won more races and earned more titles than most of his competitors will do in a lifetime that you realize there is something much more here than just another successful New Zealand racing driver with a desire to be the best. Mitch works hard on his Fitness and Nutrition to make sure he's fully prepared for his racing.

Mitch is currently racing in the Australian Formula 3 championship with Team BRM and currently stands in 2nd place. He's catching back up after missing the 2nd round due to an important test in Italy. This year Mitch has won the 2010 Toyota Racing Series, becoming the youngest ever to at 15 years old. He was also the International Series Champion and rookie of the year. With World Class drivers competing in the championship, this had been the most competitive field since the series first started.

In 2009 Mitch competed in the Australian Formula Ford Championship. Driving for the Sonic Motor Racing Services Team, Mitch broke more records. Highest placed rookie on Debut (2nd), Youngest ever to be on the Podium, Youngest ever to get pole position, Youngest ever to Win a National Australian race and the youngest ever to Win a National Australian Round. Mitch finished 2nd in the Championship and was Rookie of the year. The series covered most tracks around Australia support class of the V8 Supercars and to be known to be one of the most competitive Formula Ford Championships in the World. Thanks for the awesome support from Derek Jones from Banklink, Richard Giltrap - Gary Periam Giltrap Group, Chris Quin from Gen-I XT Network and all the Club 5000 Members.

Mitch ended up second over all in the 2008/2009 New Zealand Formula Ford Chamionship as a rookie. This was a outstanding result for Evans with being the youngest in the field by a few years and was punching results above his age just at 14 years old. 21 races. 6 wins. 3 pole positions. 13 podiums. 5 fastest laps.

Alongside his list of past race and championship winning statistics are some remarkable achievements. Winning the Junior class at the CIK Trophy of New Zealand in 2007 aged 12 he beat two 15 year old "young guns" from Australia as well as the best New Zealand had to offer. Mitchell is the youngest to have competed at the Rotax Max World Karting Championships, ending up 13th from 72 and highest placed of the four Kiwis competing at the 2007 event.

His first year in cars, Formula First, saw him 9th in the 2007/8 championship even though he missed two of the eight rounds. In April 2008 in his penultimate Formula First race, the one hour event at Manfield, he was comfortably leading with only a handful of laps to go when mechanical problems sidelined him. At the time he was ahead of Shane van Gisbergen, current Aussie V8 Supercar driver. Overcoming that setback he won his final Formula First race at the same meeting.
